SWOC

SWOC is the Web community supporting women of color who have doctoral degrees in any discipline of science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

I rethemed an existing site, and contributed to a revised site architecture and general Drupal configuration. I used content profile to add extended profile information, and radically changed the appearance of the profile input and editing via custom templates and theming. The professional history and education fields are nodereference fileds, using noderelationships to allow creating editable lists.

Cafe Vista

Small site to advertise a vacation apartment for rent in Costa Rica.

A simple site to display information about a rental apartment. There isn't currently a lot of content on the site, but it was designed to be easy to administer (the owner if visually impaired). They wanted an extremely minimalistic feel, with plenty of room for pictures and blogging.

consumersearch

Large scale and sophisticated consumer information site.

One of the larger and most highly-trafficed Drupal sites, this was built by a team of six developers, working remotely, using online technologies for collaboration. Originally in Drupal 5, it was migrated to 6 and redesigned in 2010.

I learned many lessons about tuning performance, scalability, and content distribution while on this team. The site is served by clusters of web and database servers, mirrored at a second host farm, and deployed with a combintation of scripts and version control systems. All developers were familiar with maintaining different aspects of the site, and had specialties; mine was importating data from partner companies from XML feeds and other APIs and writing custom integration modules.

Showoff Farm

Site for a dog breeder to show pictures, information, and stories about her dogs.

The site needed to be simple and very easy to administer. It uses stock Drupal blogging, node-based photo gallery, and a minimalistic navigation scheme. All sigte maintenance features are presented on a simple admin menu.

Rio Locos Tropical Tours

Site for a Costa Rican whitewater rafting company with an international clientele;

Rio Locos schedules rafting trips and other activities for tourists. They needed a way to show information about their site, have a photo gallery and blog, and to be able to accept reservation payments from their web site. Since they are running tours all day, there wasn't always someone available to answer the phone. The web site allows people to inquire about tours, and to make reservations, with a deposit accepted through PayPal.

Their customers come from many parts of the world, so some of the pages are also available in German and Spanish, using Drupal's internationalization features. Add to Any provides links to share pages with social networking sites, and Node Gallery is used for the photo gallery.

Epidemiology and Population Health Summer Institute at Columbia University

Columbia needed a way to describe courses for a summer program and to allow students to register

The designer came up with a clean and simple look, but with interactivity to drill down for details. Course descriptions and details can be expanded on the registration and checkout pages. Extensive custom theming was used to change the workflow and look of the cart and checkout pages. Students may register and pay for courses online.

Site administrators see a menu in the footer for quick access to common administrative functions.

All content, including the slideshow on the home page, may be easily modified by non-technical users.

Pragma Trading

Redesign of informational site for a company offering high tech algorithms for traders and investors.

Working from a simplified user interface, I created front-end and back-end theming templates and functions to present information in a more intuitive manner. Views and node references are used to provide a simplified administrative interface to allow site maintainers without a technological background to create sophisticated displays.
